I
use the Webalizer access
reporting software to analyze traffic to my websites.
The
Webalizer documentation for this powerful software can be
a little time-consuming to go through. So I wrote a
friendly front-end
that allows you to have the whole system up-and-running in
minutes.
Why
a CGI Interface?
The
Weblizer is not a CGI program. It is a stand-alone application
that analyzes your web server's logs and generates HTML output
files that can be viewed by a browser. Therefore, you normally
would set up a cron job and run the Webalizer every so often.
Then when you view the output files, you were viewing the
output of the most recent run.
When
I got the Webslizer, I wanted to be able to generate and view
a new report immediately...
on demand; and I didn't want to open a telnet session to do
it. This way, I can see up-to-the-second
statistics on my website.
Since
the Webalizer is so fast and can parse huge log files in seconds,
this is completely feasable and doesn't load down your server.
My
CGI interface to the Webalizer allows you to run the Webalizer
on demand and then view the results immediately.
